The Barack Obama Weight Loss Challenge
Way back in May, I told you about Saturday Night Live’s Barack Obama conundrum, which is that the only black cast member available to play Barack Obama in political parodies is the portly Kenan Thompson.
The only logical solution that Kenan could come up with was to lose 60 lbs, because, according to him, “It’s going to be a real political year and I’d hate for the show to have to seek somebody out to play Obama when they have me sitting there.” Well, if general health isn’t enough motivation, Barack Obama clearly is. Move over Dr. Ian.

He should lose weight anyways. It’s healthier for him anyways.
Uhh…maybe they should just have more than one black actor? I hate the current incarnation of SNL. Give me the cast of ‘75-80.

Hell yeah they should. There’s always ONE tocken on that show. I stopped watching SNL ages ago b/c I found myself falling asleep when I’d watch it.
Did you see the SNL special NBC did a couple of nights ago? It briefly addressed why there were not a lot of black actors in the original cast…b/c there weren’t any black writers on the show - no one to do character development for black characters. More so, the special was all about the infancy of the show, brilliance of the original cast and how Lorne Michaels dealt with all the craziness (egos, drug use) of the big stars. I haven’t watched it regularly for a long time. I just watch the old ones on DVD.
Um, doesn’t a white guy on SNL play Jesse Jackson all the time?
Well, if Michelle could get Barack to give up the cancer sticks, Kenan wouldn’t have to lose a pound.
Has anyone heard of Jordan Carlos? He’s a black comedian that gained some notoriety as Stephen Colbert’s “black friend” and he would be MUCH better playing Barack Obama than Kenan. I guess I won’t hold my breath too long waiting to see if he gets the job.
I found out about him when he wrote an essay in the Washington Post a few months ago for their “Being a Black Man” series.
I’ve heard of Stephen refer to a “black friend” but I have never seen Jordan Carlos on the show. I probably only watch The Colbert Report 2x/week so I may have missed him??
Maybe. The WaPo article turned me on to him because I rarely watch The Colbert Repport. I did find a few clips of him on YouTube though and I don’t think playing Obama would be a stretch.
