There’s no question that biracial kids have a unique struggle in a race-aware, socially segregated society like ours, where everyone is required to pick a side, identify with one race, be either/or, etc. But they also probably got more toys growing up. So it all evens out!
So-called biracial (aka interracial or multiracial) parents are more likely than their “monoracial” counterparts to provide their children with a home computer, private schooling and educational books and CDs and to make sure they participate in reading activities, dance, music or art lessons outside of school and get trips to the zoo, library and other cultural venues…
The advantage, or higher investment, can be explained as a counterweight or response to the social challenges faced by interracial couples, who only gained legal acceptance in the United States in 1970 when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a state law in Virginia that prohibited whites from marrying non-whites, said study author Brian Powell at Indiana University Bloomington.
The ruling invalidated similar bans in 15 other states.
The study found one unfortunate exception to this rule — the whole “biracial advantage thing” didn’t fly with black man/white woman couples. Of course all biracial kids have a fun advantage to mitigate their disadvantages except for the ones with black in them.

wait, it really didn’t fly when the father is black? lol, well that’s basically ALL of the mixed half black kids, oops. oh well, so much for the advantage.
Yeah this study is so suspect. Rachel Sullivan, a sociology professor who blogs at Rachel’s Tavern, broke it down thus:
“This is a common issue in the sociological research on intermarriage. The articles published, especially in the more prestigous journals, tend to be what we call the race as a variable approach. They use large scale quantitative surveys, and they do not speak directly to couples or children. Furthermore, they study race, not racism or racial attitudes, and that makes a huge difference in what they find.”

It’s a good thing all black people aren’t men, isn’t it?
