Ok, so Beyonce’s performance at the BET awards last night was kind of similar. But I prefer the term “paying homage” to “stealing,” don’t you?

It’s like hip-hop. Sample freely.

A choreographer just got canned. I’m sure the Knowles’ won’t even acknowledge it.

It’s like someone said on another blog…Kylie is wearing cornrows in this performance, right? What is she “stealing”?

and Beyonce’s wearing waist length blond hair. That’s no where comparable to stealing someone’s entire act (meaning Beyonce’s choreographer).

Corn rows - equivalent of white person doing r&b
Act top to bottom - equivalent of singing someone’s entire song

If it’s “sampling freely,” it is certainly the very liberal form of it that makes you question an artist’s abilities though as I stated previously, the fault lies with the choreographer but Beyonce will have to take the hit. She’s on top of her game. She couldn’t find a choreographer who…um….choreographs? Beyonce might as well have put on a video of Kylie’s act and learned it herself.

That sort of “sampling freely” is generally reserved for the people who don’t have the budget or industry know-how to be original. At this point, Beyonce should be giving performances that lesser stars will copy.

Also, I don’t think you can reserve rights to a dance. It seems unlikely, so it would never technically be “stealing.”

If Rihanna did the “Beyonce bootyshake” as she did a while back, people would say Rihanna stole it and was trying to be like Bey. Hillary Duff bellydanced in a very different way than Shakira and she’s being called out for it all over the place.

They all stole the swagger from the homie C-3PO http://www.starwars.com/databank/droid/c3po/ anyway.

Ha!

I knew that routine looked familiar. C-3PO is probably sitting in a corner at his 12 million dollar mansion just fuming (beeping loudly) over this…:)

Eventhough, Beyonce’s performace was hot, she straight jacked the beginning and you all have to admit it. She probably even used the same suit…

1. It’s not “paying homage” if it was done only 5 years ago. “Paying homage” was what she did to Tina Turner.

2. That’s pretty ignorant to assume that only Blacks can wear cornrows - especially in the context of Beyonce’s straight Blond weave.

3. Word on the street is C-3PO is suing Beyonce for that performance. I think he’s using the same lawyer that Kellz and Michael Jackson are using to sue the 40/40 and Jay…

The whole robot rip-off seemed pretty lame though. Nevertheless, I would rather hear Beyonce sing than talk.

I don’t have a problem with white folks wearing cornrows… just don’t front by giving Bo Derek all the credit. She did not *invent* them.
