Since I had you guys vote for the most popular blackface Halloween costume, the least I could do was search Flickr for some real life examples. While there were a few Michael Vicks – check one out after the jump — I found this one to be the most egregious. According to the Flickr site, this guy is supposed to be Zwarte Piete (Black Pete), who, to make a long story short, is Santa Claus’ black assistant in Dutch folklore. Considering the fact that this guy had the nerve to tag his photo “blackface,” I’m pretty sure he knew what he was doing.
More fun with ignorant blackface costumes Flickr after the jump.
The people who posted this picture wondered if dressing up as Milli Vanilli counts as blackface since they were “frauds.”
Apparently, this guy was dressed as Michael Vick and carried around a dog with a rope around it’s neck. But I wonder why he was so meticulous about getting the skin color right and didn’t give a shit that Michael Vick doesn’t have dreads.
In conclusion, I’ll happily report that most of the Michael Vick costumes I came across on Flickr were not blackface. The ignorant few always have to ruin it for everyone else.

I like the Milli Vanilli costumes.
a white guy i know told me his white girlfriend dressed up like tina turner: “she used a self-tanner and really looked great!”
i’ll see if i can convince them to send me a photo to share with the class.
*yawn*
I knew it. Blackface is the new black, apparently. I was counting the hours until I got an email with yet another fool dressed up in blackface for halloween.
Racism has been on a roll in the ‘07. Nice job, white people.
yep browngrl. This isn’t even well done.
I was in the Netherlands for the holidays last year, and let me tell you when Santa Clause comes to town black face is a-okay. There is a huge parade and adults and children crowd the streets dressed up as Zwarte Piet. Screw the legal prostitution and drugs, it’s this tradition that made me question the Dutchies.
