Anytime you have to open your new video with a too-long taste of your old hit single — “I Get Money,” in this case — you’re kind of telling people that you don’t have that much faith in the new stuff — “I Still Will,” featuring Akon, in this case. And you didn’t really need to tell us, 50. All we have to do is watch the first couple of minutes.

Does Ciara look so happy at the World Music Awards in Monte Carlo because, as the 3am Girls allege, 50 Cent sent a chartered plane to Monaco filled with rose petals, teddy bears, and chocolates? Lord I hope not. I say she’s just a naturally happy girl. More pics from the show after the jump.

The Usuals Lead The Pack In American Music Award Nominations

beyonceama.jpg

The American Music Award nominations are out, and Beyonce and Justin lead the group with 3 nominations each (so do Daughtry and Linkin Park, but that’s beside the point). Not as entertaining as the VMAs (minus this awful year, of course) and the BET Awards, but not as stuffy and out of touch as the Grammys, the will probably get DVR’d, at least. Check out the full list of nominations after the jump.

• Oh really, Rihanna? [BF]

• Obama-kahs, special yarmulkes emblazoned with “Obama ‘08″ are now being sold by a group called Jews for Obama. Now that’s just excessive. [TS]

• I would commend Akon for how seamlessly he is able to jump from discussing his wife to his “booty calls,” if he wasn’t so incredibly disgusting. []

Celebrity Rap Superstar: apparently more entertaining that I gave it credit for. [SOHH]

• If I didn’t loathe Michael Vick, I might fear for his safety. People out here love their dogs. [EUR]

After they finish filming their reality show, of course

akonshow.jpg
Intent on saturating the entertainment market with his face and voice and name, Akon’s coming out with a new reality show called “My Brother’s Keeper,” which will follow the adventures of his two look-alike brothers

Akon’s two brothers, who according to him, “look exactly like me,” go around town posing as Akon and reaping the benefits that come with being a high-profile performer…

“They are going around getting VIP treatment, girls, free food at restaurants, free everything and everybody is falling for it,” Akon said. “It’s a real life thing, which has got really out of hand in Atlanta, so I decided to take the situation and make it into my advantage by making a reality TV show out of it.”

A Half-Assed Apology In The Form Of A Song and Video

Akon’s voice? Still pretty dismal. But you should watch the full video for his song, “Sorry“, if only to see his video interpretation of how that whole “humping the child on stage” debacle went down.

Prison’s Kinda Nice, Says Akon

akonjail.jpg

Akon, who claims he wants kids to avoid going to jail at all costs, fails to make jail sound like the punishment its supposed to be. Describing jail as “pleasant,” doesn’t do much to discourage a kid from a like of crime.

He says, “It definitely wasn’t what I expected. It was actually a lot more pleasant. You hear all these horror stories. You watch (TV drama) Oz and prison movies, you see crazy stuff going on, and think, ‘Man, I never want to go there.’ I would like to keep that image alive, because it scares people from wanting to go there.”

He should probably find a different way of “keeping that image alive,” because this “pleasant” thing isn’t working.

Meanwhile, his comfortable jail sentence is one of the things holding up a planned Australian concert with Game and Naughty By Nature, as officials hem and haw over letting him into the country. How unpleasant.

Single Women Scare Tactics

• If George Bush’s Homeland Security Department made a documentary about single black woman, this would be it. [WAOD]

• Stevie Wonder is planning his first U.S. tour since 1986. [SP]

• I know that this is completely uncharacteristic of him, but Akon actually angered some fans at a concert in the UK. [MEN]

• An interview going around in which Karrine Steffans unloads all sorts of sordid details about her sexcapades is bogus. Curiously, Steffans has the nerve to be insulted that people would put such words into her mouth. [J-N]

• I’m curious as to what makes Kanye West such an expert on wiggers. [MG]

Akon Says He Could Clean It Up If He Wanted To

akon.jpg
Akon better watch his words, or else all of the rappers he collaborates with won’t want anything to do with him. He recently said that he doesn’t disagree that negative language brings down hip hop.

“Me personally, I would have no problem getting rid of it, words on any record for anybody, I think we are talented enough to write lyrics for songs without using that type of language. I think it’s a good thing for the positivity of hip-hop in general.”

So you guys are talented enough to write curse words out of songs but not talented enough to stop relying on humping and/or body slamming audience members during concerts?

Australia Is Not The Most Forgiving Place
If You're Black, Famous, and Have A Rap Sheet

austrailia.jpg
Australia doesn’t like rappers. Unless I can find some conclusive evidence that every person with a criminal record that tries to get into the country is given a hard time and not just Snoop Dogg, and now The Game and Akon (not a rapper, but close enough), then I’ll retract that statement. But tack that onto Xzibit’s recent run-in there, and I think its pretty clear.

Minister Kevin Andrews raised concerns about R&B star Akon and rapper The Game, who are headlining the “Roc tha Block” concert on August 11 at Vodafone Arena.

Each has lengthy rap sheets including jail time and outstanding charges.

The minister’s intervention — which has the backing of family groups — raises the prospect of a ban similar to that put on rapper Snoop Dogg, who was denied a visa in April.

In Australia’s defense, if I were a country, I would prefer Akon and The Game not visit me, either. But still, they’re performers who sometimes do dumb stuff, not terrorists.
