Gotta Work Harder Than That

Amerie’s video for her new single “1 Thing,” oops, I mean, “Gotta Work” just hit the web. Besides the sometimes weak dancing and weird planetarium backdrop, I’m not offended. I like Amerie and would be happy if she achieved the level of mainstream success she probably wants, but I’m not sure that this song and video are gonna do it. Thoughts?

I’m shocked and amazed at the lack of major fashion don’ts last night, considering the crowd. Even Lil’ Kim, while I wouldn’t have chosen that outfit/makeup/hair necessarily, could have done much, much worse. I’m not saying there weren’t some questionable wardrobe and hair choices — I’m talking to Keyshia Cole and Vivica Fox specifically, here — but in general things were looking pretty good. More red carpet pics than you can handle after the jump.

Part 2: More Celebrities Posing Away Their Dignity

amerie2.jpg

Look how happy Amerie is to be posing with her very own leather BET bag! Yesterday, more stars in town for the BET Awards filed into the “Backstage Creations Talent Retreat” to pick up some free electronics and bags embossed with the network logo. The only one not posing with some merchandise is Flavor Flav, but probably got the publicists didn’t think an image of him touching one of their products would make any of us plebes consider going out and buying them. Check out the rest of the pics after the jump.

Entertainment Weekly Celebrates Its Ultimate Must List Issue

amerie.jpg

Here’s the thing about celebrity-soaked parties. I know that they’re for work, but they can’t be fun can they? The planners select a pretty unrelated group of people in the entertainment industry — like the group at last night’s Entertainment Weekly party — and invite them to stand around a room together in pretty outfits, sipping drinks from liquor sponsors.

What does Amerie have to talk about with Montel Williams or Janice Combs, for instance? What does Coco have to talk about with anyone? Actually, does she talk, or does Ice-T speak for her? These are the questions of the day. More pics after the jump.

Sister to Sister

  • Sisters have got to really love each other to compete all the time and keep the peace. Venus is out of the French Open; Serena’s still in it to win it. [USAT]
  • A contestant in the National Spelling Bee was named Jasmine Shaquielle O’Neal Willis. And that’s all I have to say about that. [CNBC]
  • Tyra thinks wine is nasty, but it’s sexy to order it and hold the glass. Way to teach the little ones how to avoid peer pressure. [INO]
  • Amerie tried to reorganize Destiny’s Child (and take Michelle’s place) using the Sims computer game. Surprisingly, she was unsuccessful.[Starpulse]
  • It looks like Isaiah Washington was apologetic on the set of Grey’s Anatomy — not that it matters now. [QT]
  • Speaking of Isaiah, let’s not invite him to this club any time soon. Baby steps. [Urb]

LOVE, Fashion, and Hair

louisvuittonserena.jpg

Wonders never cease! Serena Williams made her second good fashion choice of the decade at the Louis Vuitton Party of LOVE in New York City last night. And if she’s ever in danger of a relapse, The Fashion Bomb has some tips to help halt her downward spiral. I think our Serena’s gonna be okay!

Take a look at some other great (and questionable) fashion statements from last night’s parties after the jump.

The Nuanced Rules of Snitching
  • Amerie insured her legs for $2 million. How does that number compare to her net worth, I wonder? I’d be suspicious of any freak leg accidents that befall her in the coming weeks. [Starpulse]
  • Snitching on serial killers is bad, but snitching when you get beat up is no biggie. Ask Cam, who’s the expert on such things. []
  • Along the same lines, watch the above clip from last night’s embarrassing 60 Minutes segment about the black community’s “relationship with the police”, if only to hear Anderson Cooper utter the words “stop snitchin’.” [H&P]
  • NYC’s Hot97 has joined a handful of other black radio stations in cutting out derogatory hip hop. I dont’ know what this means for urban radio, but I’m sure Gospel rappers are praising Jesus and Don Imus for their big break. [SOHH]
  • Vanessa Williams bares her “soul,” 1984-style, in Allure. [CL]
