It’s quite a rarity to have so many hip hop luminaries in one room, or one (Hammerstein) ballroom, as it was. But VH1 managed to cram as much talent as possible into their Hip Hop Honors show, which taped last night but airs Monday at 10 pm. Yes, there was a lot of talent there, but I don’t count Tracy Morgan, who hosted the awards and couldn’t quite get that teleprompter thing down. Could his SCRAM have been going off right about that time? No worries, I’m sure they’ll have that all cleaned up by Monday.

I had the pleasure of spending the evening in the press room, where the honorees and presenters came back to chat. In fact, so many VIPs were in attendance, I decided to write up my experiences in a handy superlative format. Check out the Best and Worst, plus lots and lots of pictures, after the jump.

We Don’t Have To Think About White Parties Again Until May of 2008

whiteparty_diddyfam.jpg

It was nice of Kim Porter to release her sons to her ex for the weekend, so they could dress up in miniature white Diddy outfits and shades with their brother Justin and hang out at an event they are all too young for.

Diddy’s annual white party was Sunday at his Hamptons estate, and makes it sound a lot cooler than it looks in the pictures.

Sources inside told Page Six one unfortunate man was made to strip off his cream-colored pants in the street, in exchange for a pure-white pair provided by Diddy. The over-the-top soirée, held at Diddy’s East Hampton waterfront mansion, featured painted geishas strolling the grounds, Polynesian dancers, a jazz band and a circus performer twirling six spinning rings. Mariah Carey, Star Jones and hubby Al Reynolds, and Donna Karan were among the celebs who managed to follow the rigid dress-code regulations. Others included Lil’ Kim, Lorraine Bracco, Brooke Shields, Tommy Lee and Russell Simmons.

Check out the pics, minus Mariah Carey, who skipped the red carpet it seems, after the jump.

It's Probably Not Even Really That Broken

No, Stereohyped has not been renamed “All Diddy, All the Time,” but when a big star completely screws up his high profile relationship, there’s a lot of news. This time, Miss Porter has released a statement.

“In ending this relationship, I made a decision that was in the best interest of myself, Sean and our family. I look forward to moving on with my life and my career, and wish him prosperity, health and happiness in life and in love. We will remain friends and committed parents to our children.”

Let’s decode, shall we? She hates his lying, cheating, disrespectful guts, but in the best interest of her children and her bank account, she’s keeping it civil. Meanwhile, he’s pursuing prosperity, health, and happiness at DJ Cassidy’s birthday party at NYC’s Tenjune. More pics from the party after the jump.

Shaving Off One’s Jheri Curl Creates A World Of Possibilities

c_rock.jpg
Here’s something I bet you didn’t know about Chris Rock: He owes his entire career to the sage advice of Andre Harrell and a quick trip to the barber shop. Don’t believe me? Ask Andre, who highlights the seminal moment in his upcoming memoir, Notes on a Revolution: From Uptown to Nu America.

Producer Andre Harrell, who’s collaborating on his autobiography with screenwriter Barry Michael Cooper, recalls being on tour with Chris Rock in the ’80s, when the comedian bombed with an audience.

Harrell told him, “They don’t get how you are trying to talk down to them while you’re rocking a Jheri curl,” Cooper recounted.

“Shave it off,” said Harrell. “You’re spraying wack juice on everybody on the tour.”

Rock lost the ’80s hair, and the rest is history.

Just think, if it weren’t for Harrell, Rock would have still been dripping wack juice all over audiences instead of making them laugh. I wonder if Harrell saw Bad Company, Head of State, and I Think I Love My Wife and can offer Rock some movie advice.
