As cocky as Kanye West might be, he certainly is putting in the promotional work with performances at parties from coast to coast. He’s getting paid, of course. But still. Last night he graced the Sidekick LX launch party with his musical stylings, no doubt rocking the crowd of semi-famous people. More pics from the party after the jump. And dare I say Nick Cannon seems a bit lackluster? He must not be taking his fake breakup from his fake fiancee very well.

• Prodigy gets hit with a three and a half year sentence after pleading guilty to illegal weapons charges. Maybe his legal team needed more people. [AHH]
• Oddly sexy for a tire ad, but I’ll take it. []

• Why do all close male friends have to attract gay rumors? Omarion, though? I’m not sure… [QT]
It’s quite a rarity to have so many hip hop luminaries in one room, or one (Hammerstein) ballroom, as it was. But VH1 managed to cram as much talent as possible into their Hip Hop Honors show, which taped last night but airs Monday at 10 pm. Yes, there was a lot of talent there, but I don’t count Tracy Morgan, who hosted the awards and couldn’t quite get that teleprompter thing down. Could his SCRAM have been going off right about that time? No worries, I’m sure they’ll have that all cleaned up by Monday.
I had the pleasure of spending the evening in the press room, where the honorees and presenters came back to chat. In fact, so many VIPs were in attendance, I decided to write up my experiences in a handy superlative format. Check out the Best and Worst, plus lots and lots of pictures, after the jump.

See the look on Nick Cannon’s face as he hosted last night’s Teen Choice Awards? I think we are witnessing the moment, captured for posterity by an ingenious photographer, when Nick Cannon officially realized he was too old for this shit.
And yet, the show had to go on. If you have even the slightest interest in who won what, you can find the list of winners here. If not, check out the stars in their teen-friendly award show gear after the jump.

Usually in Rewound, I take a video from an artist who is still famous today and talk about how different they are now and how much things have changed since his or her heyday. But Snoop? Fourteen years later, I still kind of feel like he’s that same guy. Sure he is older, richer, and coaches little league football, but at his core he’s the same old Snoop. Anyway, enjoy “Gin & Juice” and check out a miniature (actually, he’s still kind of miniature) Bow Wow in the opening skit.
Beyonce, Chris Brown, Bow Wow, Hillary Clinton, Mary J. Blige, Frankie Beverly and Maze, Lionel Richie, and Kelly Rowland (to name a few) took the stage Friday and Saturday at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans. Check out plenty of pictures from the final two days of the famous festival after the jump.

A note to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony: the fact that Mariah Carey and Bow Wow are on a song might up it’s pop potential, but it doesn’t make it good. The group just came out with their kind of boring video for their kind of boring song, “Lil’ L.O.V.E.” It could grow on me, but can I get a little C.R.E.A.T.I.V.I.T.Y.?

Men’s fashion at an award show such as this is harder to judge, because many of the attendees arrive in the same clothes they would wear to the grocery store, the club, or the annual pimp convention — none of which are good looks. Don Cheadle, who won the humanitarian award for his work in Darfur, looks pretty dapper (and he gave a great acceptance speech). I can’t say the same for all of the guys in attendance. See for yourself after the jump.

With all the black music stars in Los Angeles for tomorrow’s BET awards, the parties, gifting suites, rehearsals, profoundly ridiculous fashion choices (ahem, Luda), and ill-timed brawls (ahem, T.I.) abounded. Check out more pics from the weekend’s BET-inspired events after the jump.
