Charity From the D-List

Project Red — you know, that well-meaning AIDS-in-Africa charity that made less money than its marketing campaign cost — had an event last night, and let’s just say we’ve come a long way from fabulous celebs shilling (RED) GAP T-shirts. If the lack of serious star power at last night’s Inspi(RED) event is any indication, the campaign is even less successful than we thought.

As I (and everyone else) predicted, Beyonce was a big winner at last night’s BET Awards, and seemed to loosen up considerably without Jay-Z at her side. Note to anyone that didn’t watch: Beyonce would like you to know she’s black, proud, and very smiley.

My favorite moment had to have been the Destiny’s Child reunion on stage, where Michelle Williams played her position in the background with sub par dance moves, and Kelly Rowland had the unfortunate honor of performing after Beyonce’s tour-trained voice and fell embarrassingly short. She looked beautiful in that Wonder Woman get-up, though.

Other moments: TGT standing in unison in the audience to honor Gerald Levert (of LSG), Chudney Ross (what will all the other socialites think) laughing in embarrassment as Diana Ross semi-scolded hip hoppers for their bad language, T.I. apologizing for acting “unroyally” at Kevin Lile’s charity brunch, Robin Thicke’s ill-advised dance breakdown, 50 Cent’s on-stage meltdown, and, although I do not necessarily support her proud-to-be-obese movement, Mo’nique sure compiled some limber big girls to do her back-up dancing.

I also learned that Mo’nique calls Al Sharpton Pop-Pop, if I ran into Jennifer Holliday singing Dreamgirls tunes in a back alley I would run screaming in the other direction, and proud black man Chuck D can actually still stomach sharing a stage with Flavor Flav. All-in-all quite edifying. More pics and the winners after the jump.

Part 2: More Celebrities Posing Away Their Dignity

amerie2.jpg

Look how happy Amerie is to be posing with her very own leather BET bag! Yesterday, more stars in town for the BET Awards filed into the “Backstage Creations Talent Retreat” to pick up some free electronics and bags embossed with the network logo. The only one not posing with some merchandise is Flavor Flav, but probably got the publicists didn’t think an image of him touching one of their products would make any of us plebes consider going out and buying them. Check out the rest of the pics after the jump.

The Crystal + Lucy Awards Presented By Women in Film, Beverly Hills

traceeellisross.jpg

Tracee Ellis Ross could give her sister Chudney some lessons in class. While her sister idolizes Paris Hilton, Tracee is a woman who, despite her famous mother, has managed to make a name for herself on a hit television show. I may not like her dress, which is kind of matronly, but I like her, and that’s all that matters. Check out more pictures from Women in Film’s Crystal + Lucy Awards after the jump.

Get In Where You Fit In, Chudney Ross

chudneyross.jpg

Chudney Ross, daughter of Diana, seems to be trying her hardest to be Paris Hilton, minus the jail and psychological problems. In her blog she describes her ultimate socialite dream day, during which she chats with Pamela Anderson, eats lunch with Jessica Simpson, shops with Sienna Miller and dances with Britney Spears. I would encourage Chudney not to give up on her dreams. As soon as Paris Hilton gets out of jail, Nicole Richie will probably be headed there, and, last I checked, Paris and buddy Kim Kardashian are on the outs. That leaves a big opening for a vaguely ethnic child of privilege like herself to slide right in. Good luck!
