The last thing I want to do is listen to a song that has a hook featuring all of the most annoying shit that guys say to me as I pass them on the street*, but what do I know? Someone out there must like that sort of thing. Here’s the video for Nelly’s, uh, creatively titled “Wadsyaname.”

*Asking the question “What your name is?” is a sure way to never, ever find out my name.

Don Imus is going back on the air, and, relatively speaking, there has been precious little outcry about it. Well, you know what? Nelly is pissed. And he has a lot to say about it. A lot

Damn it. I was hoping he would be gone for good.

• You know 50 Cent’s finally finished sulking when he starts manufacturing beef again. []

• Oh, jeez. Now we’re talking eco-friendly diapers? [People]

• Happy Birthday, Ashanti! Too bad Nelly can’t give you some hit singles as a gift. [C&D]

• Lily Allen’s secret black half-sister doesn’t look very happy, for obvious reasons. [MG]

• Ann Coulter sucks, and I’m joining my fellow Jossip Initiatives editors in never writing about her ever again! Search “Ann Coulter” on Stereohyped, and you’ll see that this isn’t much of a sacrifice. [Jossip]

A Family That Squeezes Into Dresses Together, Stays Together

ashantifamily.jpg

I don’t have much to say about Ashanti’s family, as seen here at yesterday’s Resident Evil:Extinction premiere, except that this is a group of people that seriously believe in the merits of skin-tight clothing. To each their own. After the jump, more pics from the premiere.

VMAs = Very Much Awful
And it will haunt you all week as MTV plays it to death

vma_britney.jpg

Upon the completion of last night’s disaster of an award show, my first thought was that it’s going to be uglier than Britney’s extensions at the MTV offices today. I foresee heads rolling. My second thought was to rewatch Britney Spear’s performance, but I realized I couldn’t. It was that bad, for those of you lucky enough to miss it. The woman who used to bring the house down, couldn’t even lip-synch properly, had serious trouble standing still, let alone dancing, and pretty much put on the most listless, embarrassing, shoddy performance in VMA history. I’m sure there was some sort of sedative and/or alcohol involved. Anyway, it’s rough watching a career terminate before your very eyes. Don’t think I can do it again any time soon.

And the new format, with the main stage and all the little parties in other rooms, was confusing and annoying, even though it allowed for more performances. The whole thing was sloppy and unorganized. My highlights and lowlights, plus pics galore after the jump.

The Happy Married Couple Emerges

72_ushertameka1.jpg
It wasn’t until I saw a picture of these two again that I realized how nice it was to not see them for a while. Even if they’re back for good, it was a smart move on their part to lay low for a while. They came out for the opening of Jermaine Dupri’s new club, Studio 72, along with JD and Janet (of course), Nelly, some Flavor of Love girls (not pictured), and a bunch of your typical Atlantans.

Diddy: Still Cheating With Impunity

diddyclaudiajordan.jpg

  • I would say that Kim Porter will be devastated when she sees these incriminating pictures of her man and BET and Deal or No Deal’s Claudia Jordan, but we all know her ass doesn’t care.
  • The poor man’s Jay and Bey duet. []
  • The GOP’s thrilled that Katrina got rid of so many of Louisiana’s blacks; now they have a better chance of taking over the state. Is this what they mean by compassionate conservatism? [S&R]
  • Tyrese wants to ban all men from TGT concerts, because one time when he took off his shirt on stage and threw it into the audience, a gay man caught it. Now we know that neither of the T’s in the group name stands for tolerance. [O1LT]
  • I can’t figure out which is worse, when Michael Jackson makes his kids walk around with sheer scarves over their heads or when he dresses them up like the Phantom of the Opera. [SR]

BET Awards 2007: The Gentlemen

doncheadle.jpg

Men’s fashion at an award show such as this is harder to judge, because many of the attendees arrive in the same clothes they would wear to the grocery store, the club, or the annual pimp convention — none of which are good looks. Don Cheadle, who won the humanitarian award for his work in Darfur, looks pretty dapper (and he gave a great acceptance speech). I can’t say the same for all of the guys in attendance. See for yourself after the jump.

Chicago Churchgoers Are Taking Out The Trash

lilwayne.jpg
Look at Lil’ Wayne. Does he look like the kind of person would would produce trash and sell it to impressionable youth? If you said yes, you agree with a church in Chicago that put up pricey billboards protesting the music of him and his contemporaries.

50 Cent and G-Unit, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Ludacris, Nelly, Fat Joe and Twista are among the artists named on the advertisements posted by Faith Community of St. Sabina, local NBC affiliate WMAQ reported. “If we are going to end the violence and disrespect of women, we must fight every form of negativity, including the music industry,” the church’s pastor, the Reverend Michael Pfleger, said in a press release.

I don’t know exactly how much a billboard costs, but I know they must have dug deep into the church’s bank account to pay for a number of billboards across the city. How about feeding some homeless or buying some kids computers instead of fighting a battle you can’t win, Pastor?
