Here's Your Chance

missionariescannibals1.jpg

When Yahoo’s web game designers run out of ideas, they turn to myths from the good ol’ days of colonialism for their inspiration. is a brilliant game that requires the player to move all of the “kind” missionaries to one side of the water before the evil (brown) cannibals eat them. No, really. Sound fun?

If Jay-Z and Beyonce are really jumping their respective ships and bringing their starpower to Apple, then that explains Jay-Z’s complete disinterest in all Def Jam artists except Rihanna, who he would probably bring along. According to the techie rumor mill, the power couple could be running a new music division with at Steve Jobs’ company. Free iPhones for the whole entourage!

iPhone Mania

iphone.jpg
I was pretty late getting an iPod, and until the price of an iPhone, which goes on sale in Apple and AT&T stores starting at 6pm, needs to go down by about $300-$400 before I come close to buying it, I’ll be late getting that too.

Not only am I not buying a $600 cell phone with an accompanying 2-year plan, I’m also not waiting on line in the summer heat like these iPhone fanatics in NYC to get one. Have these people ever heard of the Internet shopping?

Barack 2.0

cellphone.jpg
Not content to have a wildly popular Myspace and Facebook pages, Barack Obama is entering the cell phone game, with customized reggaton and techno ringtones. Seriously. Says MTV:

A newly launched mobile text-update service allows you to get the latest news on Obama on your cell phone, where you can also get Obama ringtones featuring techno and reggaetón beats under the candidate’s sound bites on health care and the Iraq war. Like most of the candidates, you can also catch up with Obama on his pages on Facebook, MySpace, PartyBuilder, YouTube, Flickr and Eventful, where you can download his tour schedule.

In addition, Hillary Clinton’s campaign has rolled out RSS feeds and Youtube spoofs. Doesn’t this all kind of remind you of when your parents try to get hip to new technology to feel cooler…and it doesn’t work?

You're Not Really Surfing the net

  • What was the point of Stereohyped again? According to scientists, black people aren’t really into that high-tech internets thing G.W.’s always going on about. The news isn’t all bad, though. Apparently, our numbers in the web-surfing world are growing, turning what was once a digital divide into a “.” Right. Anyway, these scientists obviously didn’t factor Myspace into their research.
  • If you live in Staten Island, are black, and have cancer, you’re more likely to die than a white person with the same stats. Unfortunately, this is true wherever you live in the continental United States. It’s all likely due to a lower rate of preventative screening in the black community.
  • Or maybe it’s .
  • Chances that premature, low-birth weight babies will survive are not increasing with time and medical advances, and the at-risk babies are more likely to be born to black, inner city mothers. Prenatal care is not a joke, girls!
