But Don't Really

McDonalds Has Standards

  • McDonalds drops Twista from a concert tour because of his “objectionable lyrics.” What about their Chicken McNuggets? [NME]
  • Robin Roberts is one of few famous African American women speaking out about their breast cancer experience, and she may be an influence on countless women who think it can’t happen to them. [WSYR]
  • For the second time, Apple is the target of Eminem’s wrath. [AHN]
  • We’re supposed to register surprise that Hannity & Colmes were mean to some polite, black liberals? []

BET Awards 2007: The Gentlemen

doncheadle.jpg

Men’s fashion at an award show such as this is harder to judge, because many of the attendees arrive in the same clothes they would wear to the grocery store, the club, or the annual pimp convention — none of which are good looks. Don Cheadle, who won the humanitarian award for his work in Darfur, looks pretty dapper (and he gave a great acceptance speech). I can’t say the same for all of the guys in attendance. See for yourself after the jump.

Chicago Churchgoers Are Taking Out The Trash

lilwayne.jpg
Look at Lil’ Wayne. Does he look like the kind of person would would produce trash and sell it to impressionable youth? If you said yes, you agree with a church in Chicago that put up pricey billboards protesting the music of him and his contemporaries.

50 Cent and G-Unit, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Ludacris, Nelly, Fat Joe and Twista are among the artists named on the advertisements posted by Faith Community of St. Sabina, local NBC affiliate WMAQ reported. “If we are going to end the violence and disrespect of women, we must fight every form of negativity, including the music industry,” the church’s pastor, the Reverend Michael Pfleger, said in a press release.

I don’t know exactly how much a billboard costs, but I know they must have dug deep into the church’s bank account to pay for a number of billboards across the city. How about feeding some homeless or buying some kids computers instead of fighting a battle you can’t win, Pastor?

Twista Thinks Bush Is Bogus
He's Right

twista.jpg
Twista’s an unlikely rapper to get into the political game or any game for that matter. He’s pretty low key. Who knew he had a weekly column in RedEye, the Chicago Tribune’s free newspaper? Yesterday, he decried Bush’s of the Iraq spending bill and aligned himself with Rosie O’Donnell. A complicated guy, this Twista.

President Bush just vetoed a bill that would bring the troops home. I feel like he was bogus for vetoing that bill.

He said he was gonna do it but he finally actually did it. I want to tell people to write, call, or come up with some way to give suggestions to help say something to effect our troops coming home.

We need to say something effective to bring our troops back home. We have troops dying every day and I think it’s time that they come back home to the people they care about. I wanna know what you all think we can do to help bring the troops home because something needs to be done.

There are two sides to the situation in Iraq but I kind of feel the way Rosie O’Donnell feels: They didn’t attack us so why should we have to attack them? Sometimes I don’t know what to think.

We don’t either, Twista.
