Busta Rhymes was seen celebrating his significantly younger fiancée’s birthday at the Chinese eatery Chin Chin. Fellow diners cold not stop gawking at her approximately 20 carat engagement ring. But the happy couple barely noticed as they snuggled and fed each other. Rumor has it the rapper called the owners and asked them to stay open an hour later just so they could swing by.

Gawking at the ring? I would probably be gawking at a mysterious, unnamed woman enjoying the process of Busta Rhymes feeding her. But that could all go back to the 20 carat ring.

Someone Get J. Holiday An Inhaler

J. Holiday, best known for the song “Bed” and the fact that his album contains an above average amount of profanity for your average R&B CD, released his new video “Suffocate.” It’s devoid of profanity and perfectly SFW, in case you were wondering.

Obama, Blacks, Gays, and the Church

obama.jpg
Barack broke his relative silence on his Donnie McClurkin scandal in a rare, but oh, so necessary, interview in The Advocate.

Part of the reason that we have had a faith outreach in our campaigns is precisely because I don’t think the LGBT community or the Democratic Party is served by being hermetically sealed from the faith community and not in dialogue with a substantial portion of the electorate, even though we may disagree with them.

Part of what I have done in my campaign and in my career is be willing to go to churches and talk to ministers and tell them exactly what I think. And go straight at some of these issues of homophobia that exist in the church in a way that no other candidate has done.

But, now that it’s come out that Barack Obama rejected two black gay ministers and Michael Erick Dyson as participants in his controversial South Carolina gospel tour in favor of a gay white minister, a new can of worms has been open. But at least the controversy over his dedication to the black community is one he’s used to.

The whole thing has been idiotic on Obama’s part, yes, but it’s pretty preposterous to persecute him for pandering to southern black churchygoers, many of whom believe homosexuality is a sin, when all of the candidates do it. Show me a presidential candidate who has never shaken the hand of a person who is anti-gay under the guise of Christianity, and I’ll show you someone who’s probably not getting the nomination.

Tyler Perry Wants To Rule The World

tp.jpg
Will Smith’s portfolio of family films, action flicks, and romantic comedies has been a good recipe for international success, and now Tyler Perry is itching to get in on some of that world-wide action, although some doubt his international appeal.

We are challenging the status quo,” said Charles King, Perry’s agent at the William Morris Agency. “We do not believe that there is not an international audience for Tyler’s movies.”

Several major studios are now courting Perry, promising to push him internationally. These offers are particularly appealing because his current distributor, Lions Gate, has had a disappointing track record abroad.

Only two of Perry’s four movies have opened internationally. The films, released in such countries as Poland, Iceland, South Africa and Brazil, grossed a pittance there.

Lack of international recognition aside, the guy is still doing pretty well domestically, coming in second on the weekend box office chart.

I’m shocked and amazed at the lack of major fashion don’ts last night, considering the crowd. Even Lil’ Kim, while I wouldn’t have chosen that outfit/makeup/hair necessarily, could have done much, much worse. I’m not saying there weren’t some questionable wardrobe and hair choices — I’m talking to Keyshia Cole and Vivica Fox specifically, here — but in general things were looking pretty good. More red carpet pics than you can handle after the jump.

Obama's 13

clooneyobama.jpg

If the star power of a celebrity’s supporters equaled votes, Barack Obama would beat Hillary Clinton by a landslide. While her Young Hollywood fundraiser Wed night was attended by a random mix of stars and “stars” like RZA, Eric “McSteamy” Dane and director Brett Ratner, Obama’s got George Clooney and Matt Damon (not to mention Oprah Winfrey) on his side. But then again, he’s black and he’s not married to Bill Clinton. It more than evens out.

  • Vicks Vapor Rub has got to be the least sexy endorsement product ever. Somehow, it fits Serena Williams. [C&D]
