Sanaa Lathan, Gabrielle Union, and Nia Long are on the cover of the next month’s Essence, and guess what? They don’t like blogs too much. Especially black blogs. Run by black women. Hmph.

Essence: How do you deal with the 24-hours-a-day gossip that comes out on the Internet?

Gabrielle: Just last week somebody gave me a baby. This isnt Perez Hilton or the White gossip people, these are women of color, specifically Black women who, for whatever reason, dont like the company I keep.

Sanaa: Shes talking about the gossip sites.

Essence: The blogs.

Sanaa: That are run by Black women.

Gabrielle: And now because everyone is clamoring for celebrity tidbits, the bigger gossip sites and even mainstream entities are picking up on it. No fact-checking, no nothing. And in one weeks time, there were like five different dudes, a baby—Im a homewrecker. In literally seven days. I cant point the finger at the White media. They dont care about us. Paparazzi are not staked out in front of any of our houses. They are not going through our garbage because they dont care about us in that way. So when you hear crap about us, it is coming from our own community, which hurts.

Nia: We are some of the few Black actresses whose passions are rooted in our community.

Gabrielle: There is this idea that there is integrity in journalism; if its written it has to be true. But thats not the case. When blogs or any of the magazines get it wrong, theres no accountability. In the next breath, theyll complain on the blogs that we dont have enough Black stars. Well, you rip us to shreds every two seconds from our nose to the weave to the clothes to the shoes to the ashy ankles.

Maybe they don’t read Stereohyped. It’s relatively new and not a 100 percent gossip site, so I would understand. But most things I say about these three women are positive, and the last negative post I wrote about Gabrielle Union came from information I got from the New York Daily News, which is about as black and female as Mitt Romney.

Sorry you three feel that way.

Now that that’s out of the way, can you guys please do a movie. I love all three of you as actresses. You all sound intelligent when you speak and you seem educated. We need more of that in Hollywood.

I have spoken and now you three must act upon my wishes.

I don’t think this is the kind of blog they’re talking about either. I totally agree with them though. Granted, I don’t read Perez Hilton, but the black bloggers do have a tendency to rip people apart. Nia doesn’t really get much hate though. Sanaa (”home wrecker”) and especially Gabrielle (hair, upper lip, “home wrecker”) get a lot of crap.

I respect what they said, but think they should understand that that is part of being a celebrity. And it is done to white celebrities, just as it is to black celebrities. Some sites/outlets are notorious for raking celebrities over the coals - think TMZ, the namechecked Perez Hilton, or dlisted.com. That’s just part of the business, and it helps sell magazines and generate hits on the websites.

True, but how can you trash the talented black actresses out there and in the same breath complain about the shortage of them? Why not cherish the ones we do have? Don’t know about the first two, but of the little that dlisted reports on these three, I’m fairly sure it’s been positive.

Negative new is easier to produce and is more popular than positive news. There is no link between the negative gossip and the lack of roles for black actresses, which results in a dearth of prominent black actresses.

I think Dlisted is very satarical, and pretty much lampoons almost every celebrity.

I agree with the ladies and actually for the past couple of months I have cut back or cut out altogether the reading of certain blogs. I think some go too far in their postings and are just blog versions of BET.

I don’t this is the type of blog they’re talking about either. After reading the interview, I think all three have a pretty good sense of humor about themselves, no perfectly well the business they are in. I just think their tired of certain blogs focusing on them.

Dear Lauren, as someone who followed a link here from Mollygood on your first day, I can say for certain that Stereohyped is not the type of blog the ladies were referring to. You’ve been doing a great job on this blog, and I thank you.

Gabrielle does get it pretty good in the blogs. Let certain blogs tell it, she is doing the do with a different man (usually somebody else’s husband) every night. It is unfortunately, part of the game these days. Certain blogs just blatantly make up stuff. If I was a black actress in Hollywood today, I would not expect to be treated kindly on any gossip blog, even ones run by black women. Gossip has to be scathing in order to be interesting, so as long as people want to hear gossip, people will make things up. Cest la vie.

I think the ladies understand that and they just wanted to vent a little.

BOO HOOO!! All of them are USUALLY represented in a positive light on the blogs. I just can’t get down with them griping over GOSSIP though! I mean come on, let’s be real. If it wasn’t for the black women bloggers “rippin them apart,” no one would even know who the hell they are! YES, you too Nia! They better be glad somebody is paying attention to them. Seriously, aren’t there other things these “intelligent” women could be complaining about in Hollywood other than gossip???????

OVER IT

They aren’t talking about this blog. Let’s break it down…they are talking about blogs like ybf and C&D, etc. Those can be extremely negative. Gabby, Nia, et al are living the glam life and should be happy about it instead of bitching about gossip blogs. However Gabby gives us something to talk about every time she’s somebodies jump off. All is fair in life and film as we say (except when it comes to Bey). Talk about her and you’ll get shanked.

No. 13 daria says:

In Gabby’s defense, it is not physically possible for her to be in 5 people’s different beds at the same time. I don’t know why she’s linked to whoever she takes a picture with, even if there are 20 other women in the photo with her.

Actually, the intelligent women did talk about a lot of other things that are wrong in hollywood. This was just one topic discussed in the interview.

That cover is beautiful! It’s amazing to see these talented black actresses together. It makes me wish that more magazines had women of color on them outside of Ebony, Latina and the like.

This is in response to “blackmistressdiva”
I am an avid reader of YBF and I happen to know for a fact that 999 out of 1,000 posts on Gabby and Sanaa (I don’t count Nia cause no one else does) have showered them with compliments and praises.
If you want to point fingers, get your blogs straight.

^^^You know for a FACT that 999 out of 1000 posts are positive? Wow. Ok. In light of this scientific poll - I’m totally wrong and take back everything I said.

Don’t read YBF. I’d say Bossip, Sandra Rose and Concrete Loop.

BTW - I wasn’t talking about just the ppl who run them. I read ybf on a daily and I am not saying that overall it’s a negative sight, but it can be negative. The comments from readers on ybf can be negative about certain ppl. I’ve read negativity on ybf with my OWN eyes - I don’t care what someone else says. It really doesn’t even matter b/c the argument that Gabby, Nia and Sanaa are making is silly in my opinion anyway.

Tres Chic Style is proud to admit that our blog does not intentionally or purposely set out to maliciously attack any celebrity -Black or White.
However, because fashion is our forte…..We will post and review celebrity looks/styles and call you out if need be….
And for the record Gabby…there are several blogs written by Black Women like myself that actually applaud your talent, beauty grace and style minus the “malicious gossip”.

I notice a lot of blogs taking Gabby’s comments personal. But she has a point, the white folks could care less, so people get their impressions about black celebrities from black blogs. Sometimes its good and sometimes its not, that’s the business. I’m sure she recgonizes that the opposite is also true, but what do you want her to do give all of y’all a shout out. You know most people think about the negatives before the positives. Cut the girl some slack.

We don’t want a “shou out”. Your absolutely correct Page Six and Perez Hilton could care less about Gabby, Nia or Sanaa..so it’ the black bloggers like myself that give them free positive publicity to further their careers. She is a professional and she should choose her words carefully when responding on a subject. Yes I take it very personal because their are a select group of positive Black Blogs that are actually pioneering the blogging industry and when she makes ridiculous comments like that it just sets us back….

I have seen many comments on other sites from readers that are horrendous. They dog Gabby out without apparent cause and it’s so dumb. If they see her at a party, she “parties too much” and if she takes a picture with a male friend (like Hill Harper, whose book she contributed to), she’s a ho. I mean, REALLY. She and the others are really great actresses who don’t get the “it girl” label and the subsequent 18 lead roles that come with it like some of the starlets out there. Think Kate Bosworth, Jessica Alba, Sienna Miller, etc. So, to want to be supported and encouraged by your own, so to speak, is not whining. I think it’s something most of us want even though we don’t have to contend with fame.
