Genarlow Wilson, the Georgia man who has spent two year in prison since being convicted to a 10 years sentence for having consensual oral sex with a 15-year-old when he was 17, is officially out of jail. The Georgia Supreme Court agreed 4-3 that his sentence amounted to cruel and unusual punishment.

About f-ing time. If I didn’t just spend the last hour reading about the innocence project, I would probably be more uppity. My faith in our justice system is now at a record low so I just have to shrug and hope he’s able to get back to a normal life.

If this is what amounts to a worthwhile cause to Black people, we’re in a lot of trouble. This dude participated in an orgy during which he and 4 other guys had sex with an heavily intoxicated minor and then allowed another girl to blow him. Of course, he and his friends didn’t want to forget the event, so they recorded.

Now he’s out and we’re celebrating the release of a child molester and a child pornographer.

When did sex with an intoxicated women stop being rape?

Why did black people automatically assume that he received a stiff sentence because the girl was white? Upon finding out the victim was black, some folks were honestly confused. It’s like exploitation black girls is acceptable.

The saddest part is that Wilson still doesn’t get it. He said that something along the lines that a few minutes of “fun” wasn’t worth the time in jail. I can only shake my head.

lele19106, my mother thinks the same thing that you do. The problem with that statement is that he was 17 when he did it. My understanding is that the girl was not drunk and it wasn’t an orgy. If he had penetrative sex with the girl, the max sentence was far less than it was for oral sex (which is ridiculous). This happens IN schools (literally) around the country. This happened in my high school (literally, in the bathroom at homecoming my senior year. It was a bunch of guys and one freshman girl who had to transfer after they were all suspended). In almost every state in the US, sexual activity between a 15 year old GIRL and a 16 year old BOY is considered consensual. Homophobia is the reason there are harsher rules for “sodomy.” All of them were stupid. The most absurd part is that everyone else in the case got probation though ALL had records. He was on track to go to college, had no record and was on the honor roll.

I consider myself a big supporter of victims’ rights which is why I don’t believe that dangerous people should be paroled while people who aren’t dangerous are kept in jail. Why are we all paying for a kid who exhibited bad judgment (because that NEVER happens to teenagers and young adults) to be in jail?
