But Are Their Comrades?

My how things change! Three major players on the notoriously homophobic reggae/dancehall scene have pledged to stop encouraging hatred in their music. Sizzla, Beenie Man, and Capleton have signed the Reggae Compassion Act, which is basically a promise to be more tolerant. The Stop Murder Music Campaign, which introduced the pledge, is also working on recruiting Elephant Man, TOK, Bounty Killa, Vybz Kartel and Buju Banton. But these activists are humans, not miracle workers. These artists represent not just a musical genre but an entire region of the world. Still, a piece of paper with the signatures of three of its biggest stars is a start.
