This holiday season, the theaters will be showing not one, but two Christmas movies with all-black casts. No, they’re not Tyler Perry productions. No, they don’t look particularly wonderful, but they are nice family films filled with brown faces. An alternative to American Gangster for the kiddies, if you will.

Check out the trailer for The Perfect Holiday, starring Gabrielle Union opposite Morris Chestnut (an age-appropriate love-interest), above.

The Chris Brown, Regina King, and Idris Elba (!) movie This Christmas will also be in theaters next month.

This post has put me in a very premature Christmas-y mood. Great, now I’ll be humming Donny Hathaway for the rest of the day.

I remember when Morris used to looooove him some Gabrielle Union. He would talk about her all the time when they had a movie to promote.

I’m so pumped about this. How often do you get TWO black family movies for the holiday season.

Moris and Gabrielle are like Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, they have great chemistry when they connect on a new project.

I’m so tired of the same black actors in every movie. It makes me not want to see the movie.

Tanya, agreed. They do seem to recycle the same black people.

On the other hand, I’m geeked to see more black movies coming out that don’t revolve around drugs & violence (except American Gangster).

I never got on the Morris bandwagon. He always seemed far into himself. Very “I know you want some of this.” True as that may be, I prefer men who don’t realize just how sexy they are.

Tanya, JB819–Check out the new TP flick. He is good for giving new actors a chance (like the fine guy from “Half and Half” and “All My Children” and Sharon Leal) and some of the familiar ones as well (Malik Yoba, Blair Underwood, etc.). Reuben Cannon does a lot of his casting and was responsible for casting a lot of TV shows (Hunter, Matlock, Half & Half, Bernie Mac). BMD–I second that emotion re: Idris!
