I’m generally not ready to feel Christmasy until after Thanksgiving, due to the fact that I like to take things one holiday at a time. But the big, commercial Christmas push comes so early these days that its sort of unavoidable.
Here’s Chris Brown’s take on a Christmas classic from the soundtrack of his new movie, This Christmas. He does a pretty good job, even with the silly, out-of-place choreography, but why would anyone really listen to C.B.’s version when Donny Hathaway’s is available? Or am I just being resistant to change?
Lauren,
No, you’re right. The original version is the jam. Or, maybe I’m just saying this b/c every x-mas my parents deem it necessary to play this loud as he** on the house stereo system.
Awwwww, Chris Brown is just so cute! Down right adorable. He’s definitely not touching the original, but it’s a nice version. He made it his own.
I hate Christmas (except for the birth of Jesus part) but even I can’t resist Donny’s version. I find myself humming it during different times of the year. He should have picked something else.
I love Xmas. I like buying gifts for ppl…and celebrating baby Jesus of course.
JillyBean, I would get along well with your parents because as soon as Thanksgiving hits, I start jamming the hell out of that song.
Aww, give CB a break, the 18-year-old’s that worship him ain’t thinkin’ about a Donny Hathaway version. Or if they are, they’re not mad a cute Chris doing his thing!

Are the RSS feeds not working? My live bookmark for Stereohyped won’t load… and the site is obviously up.
@rkj: We had a brief interruption during some upgrading, but it should all be sorted out now!
honee,
Yeah, you’d probably love ‘em. They (but especially my mom) have some old school jams on *gasp* records. They still play perfectly as if they were just purchased. My mother still doesn’t like for me to put a record on the turntable b/c she thinks I’ll scratch it.
…who am I fooling, I probably would scratch it
And what century is your mama living in? I can accept tapes, but come on. We’ve had tapes, CDs and MP3s since. CDs seem a bit antiquated now.
I LOVE playing records. I still have my first one..Lipps, Inc.’s Funkytown.
My mother has a closet full of records. When she pulls out her Ohio Players records, she means business! It’s time to PAR-TAY! LOL.
