50 Cent on how rappers are held to different standards than fallen pop stars:

“I guess they have their rules that apply individually to each artist separately: ‘Oh no, he can’t say that, ’cause he feels like that about that person,’ ” he said. “But it’s not a rule that applies to everybody else. Matter of fact, my next single, I’m going to start it [with], ‘It’s Britney, bitch!’ “

While some people might feel a certain way about the way Eve’s paw-print tattoos look when she’s in formal wear, I actually think that she pulls them off. It’s like a trademark.

It should be said that it’s not the sort of thing a non-rapper/sort-of-actress can make work as successfully. More pics from the 7th on Sale Black-Tie Gala, where Eve showed off her class and sass, after the jump.

march.jpgThousands of protesters flooded DC today, and, led by (who else?) Al Sharpton and Martin Luther King III, marched to the Justice Department, where circled the building “seven times in a gesture reminiscent of the biblical Joshua’s procession around the walled city of Jericho.” Okay.

Well, the marchers are marching to protest the Justice Department’s lax response to “hate crimes and hate signs” that are popping up all over, most notably since the Jena Six story hit the mainstream.

I know there are thousands of people who are fond of Barry Bonds. And millions more are fond of baseball. I am not one of those people. So when I heard the news that Bonds had been indicted on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, I was kind of like, “eh.”

If Marion Jones had her medals taken away for taking steroids, it seems unfair for Barry Bonds (and others, yes, I know) to get away with both taking steroids and lying about it and being really obnoxious and surly. The latter two aren’t criminal offenses, I just thought I’d add them. So. I guess there goes Barry’s career? I wish he had gotten arrested so I could make some sort of “Barry’s out on Bond” joke, but, as it is, I’ve got nothing. These baseball posts kill me.[ESPN]

I'm Not Exaggerating

I wonder if that “pretend I’m Beyonce” line has been successful for Tyra in the past.

I can think of $millions$ of reasons why it’s good to be Will Smith, Barack Obama, Tiger Woods*, and Denzel Washington. Low on the list is that they have all graced the cover of Men’s Vogue in 2007. While I’m sure it’s sort of “whatever” to them, it’s kind of a big deal in the fashion mag industry, where covers featuring black celebs are few and far between. Take Men’s Vogue’s female predecessor, Vogue, for instance: Jennifer Hudson’s March cover was only the third in the magazine’s history to feature a black female celebrity. And there was not a single black model in the October issue’s fashion spread. Incidentally, the same went for Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Glamour and Cosmopolitan.

I suppose it’s not entirely accurate to say that black people aren’t “en Vogue.” Just those unfashionable black women. [Portfolio]

The Guy Who Actually Pulled The Trigger Is Not

renato.jpgA murder case in Northern California has local civil rights activists crying racism. A 22-year-old black man will go on trial for a murder that everyone, including law enforcement, knows he didn’t commit. Renato Hughes was charged under a rarely-used legal doctrine called the California Provocative Act, which allows a person to be charged for murder if it can be proven that their illegal actions caused a series of events that would lead to bloodshed.

According to police, Hughes and two of his friends broke into the rural NoCal home of (white) Shannon Edmonds, where they demanded marijuana and beat the man’s stepson, who is now brain damaged, with a baseball bat. Edmonds shot the two friends in the back while Hughes got away. Hughes, whose mother said he went to the house to buy weed, not break in, .

Kanye West had to bow out of performing at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in LA last night for obvious reasons, but never fear! The Spice Girls, who look mostly the same, although the majority of them have gotten way, way skinnier, were on hand to lend their peforming services. This may or may not have been disastrous. I’ll need to check it out when it airs.

I’ll give it to Victoria’s Secret. With Jessica White, Selita Ebanks, and Noemie Lenoir stomping down the catwalk, they’ve got one up on most designers that show during fashion week. Three black models don’t exactly make an army (although there could have been more that weren’t pictured), but still. More pics — the men should like these — after the jump.

Busta Rhymes was seen celebrating his significantly younger fiancée’s birthday at the Chinese eatery Chin Chin. Fellow diners cold not stop gawking at her approximately 20 carat engagement ring. But the happy couple barely noticed as they snuggled and fed each other. Rumor has it the rapper called the owners and asked them to stay open an hour later just so they could swing by.

Gawking at the ring? I would probably be gawking at a mysterious, unnamed woman enjoying the process of Busta Rhymes feeding her. But that could all go back to the 20 carat ring.
