If there was any question that the huge opening week both Kanye and 50 Cent had was based almost entirely around their hyped battle, the fact that sales dropped by 76 percent for Kanye and 79 percent for 50 in the second week should answer it once and for all — although I’m sure Kanye would want me to mention that he still sold more records than his foe.
Their rapid decline was good news for Reba McEntire, who took the number one spot and probably pissed Kenny Chesney off big time.
Squeezing in at the bottom of the top 10 were Chamillionaire and Twista, who maybe should have made a bigger deal out of going head-to-head on their album debuts this week in order to get higher numbers. Check out the top 10 after the jump.

I’ve been buying lots of music lately. No new stuff though. Bought an Earth, Wind & Fire box set, Stax Records 50th Annivarsary set and some Janis Joplin over the weekend. Next week though Jill Scott and Keisha Cole come out I think. So I’ll get those, but it’s rare that I buy a new artist. So much of it is wack.
Actually Jill and Keisha’s CD’s came out Tuesday. I was so excited to buy Jill’s and went to the store only to find out that on the 24th they decided that the CD wont come out in Canada til Oct 2nd. I’ve never heard of an album coming out later in Canada before, ruined my whole day. I gotta check itunes and see if I can download it. And I agree most of the new music is garbage I find myself searching the 20th Century greatest hits sections in music stores more and more . Damn I’m turning into my mother!
Looks like I’m behind! My classic soul, funk and R&B collection has far outpaced all of my current stuff. I don’t know when it was that current R&B really turned me off? I don’t recall there being a defining moment. I do know that I like live bands so anyone who doesn’t have a real voice and can’t sing with a real band will never see a dollar of mine.
I do agree with BlKmistressdiva everyone selling records can’t sing.
