Barack's Lucky Day

Which is more important, the New Hampshire and Iowa primaries or Oprah Winfrey’s opinion? Don’t answer that — it may shed an uncomfortable amount of light on the way we do things here in America. Needless to say, Oprah’s endorsed a candidate. And as the cattle industry and Dr. Phil (for instance) will tell you, when Oprah pays you a little bit of attention — whether it’s good or bad — the world pays you a lot. Barack Obama better not disappoint her. If so, I’m sure Hillary will be happily waiting in the wings to replace him.

Ms. Winfrey said that she had not made a financial contribution to Mr. Obama’s campaign, but acknowledged that her public endorsement was probably far more valuable. Campaign finance laws would prohibit her from donating more than $2,300 in the primary and $2,300 in the general election.

“I think that what he stands for, what he has proven that he can stand for, what he has shown was worth me going out on a limb for,” Ms. Winfrey told Mr. King on Tuesday. “And I haven’t done it in the past because I haven’t felt that anybody — I didn’t know anybody well enough to be able to say, ‘I believe in this person.’ ”

.

Endorsing Obama is cool, but I don’t know about all of this talk about believing in him and going out on a limb for him. Oprah believed in , and look where that got the both of them.
