• Sherri Shepherd considered Dog a role model. I would be surprised, but, seriously, this is the woman who didn’t know the world was round. Okay, I’m a little shocked. [MG]
• Jay-Z shuns iTunes in a bid to increase record sales. I think. [SR]
• Will the media in Finland blame hip hop? [MTV]
• An injured Serena Williams pulls out of the WTA championships in Madrid. []
The media in Finland will most likely blame heavy metal since it is very popular in that part of the world.
It’s tragic overall. The shooting should be “blamed” on the person who did it instead of outside issues.
I keep expecting Serena to announce her retirement at any moment. Hasn’t seemed like her heart’s really been in tennis for a couple of years now.
I know this is going to sound harsh but it’s the truth. Not a big fan of Sherri Shepherd… back in the day the only role offered to black women was the mammy yet we still continue to accept this role gleefully. Sherri basically played the only black woman, the sassy black friend, on the white sitcoms. If you search for the youtube video “Sherri Shepherd new co-host on ‘The View’”, Sherri explains her career in sitcom TV. For all her materialistic character flaws, Star Jones was at least a little outspoken on issues of race, and this probably made Barbara Walters uncomfortable so she had to go. And then there was the drama and the outcry…
so… Sherri’s basically Star Jones’ replacement because she’s the placid pet mammy girl on the white sitcoms… she won’t start no trouble in massa’s house.
I didn’t watch much of this show, but Star was not placid. In case you forgot, that’s pretty much why she lost her job. Everyone likes the sassy token girl and Star Jones was not that. Other than Lisa Ling, she is the only one who came up with mildly intelligent opinions on that show. Her attitude is stank, yes, but she was not an idiot like the other 4 women on there. As for Baba Wawa, I have never lost respect for anyone so fast ever.
I have never seen Dog the Bounty Hunter, so I can’t say whether what Sherri is saying makes sense or not. Did he seem to really care about the people he was apprehending? I don’t know. Did he really follow up with them to help keep them out of trouble? I don’t know. But if he did, I can see her being upset that this guy she thought was a decent, though rough person is clearly a racist.
Why do we expect everything that comes out of this woman’s mouth to be stupid?
Oh, and Daria? I co-sign 100% on lost respect for BW!
i just saw a snippet of Sharpei the Bounty Hunter’s interview on Larry King. For those keeping track of his reasons for what happened:
* i was angry
* i thought i was a brother from another mother
* i thought i was cool enough to use the word like black people use it
* i’m not very educated and need to improve my vocabulary.
i’ll at least give it to him that it took him a while to get around to blaming black people. i’m waiting for him to blame hip-hop music next…
Kmoney - I saw the interview on Larry King and I was actually laughing at certain points. Especially when Larry asked him if his son will marry the black girl and Dog replied, “he better. After all this.” Hahaha. That guy is so lame. Having a black “spiritual advisor” (what does that even mean in 2007?) and crying every time he spoke about his son(s).
The BIGGEST laugh came when Larry asked one of his sons if he’d ever said the word nigger and his son said yes, but in the “brother to brother” way b/c he was “FROM THE STREETS OF DENVER.” Hahahahahah! WTF?? Denver!?! OMG I laughed so hard.
