Despite his stereotypical “angry black man” rant a few episodes back, Rock Harper won the 3rd installment of Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen,” or as I like to call it, The Cooking Show That’s Not As Good As Top Chef.
In an interview after the season finale, he said his goal is to become “the best black Italian chef in the country.” Why not just the best Italian chef? Anyway, you’re on your way, Rock. You’re on your way.
Angry British men screaming obscenities at hapless, stupid Americans = entertainment?
Not really.
I didn’t really like him, but he was better than the ditzy pretty blond white girl who should have been eliminated on episode 1.
If you see the show, you’ll understand why he’s so angry. They are so painfully incompetent and childish. That being said, I didn’t know Brits could cook.
I’ve seen the show. I watched the entire first season(!) and didn’t understand why he screams at ppl, most of whom have no formal cooking training, like they should be kitchen pros? Also he never shows he has any expertise at anything, even though he’s a fairly highly regarded chef. He just screams.
my favorite chef/tv personality, Anthony Bourdain, acknowledges Ramsay as an accomplished chef and calls this show ‘theatre’. i don’t think he meant it as an insult. i interpret as a reference to the fact that this show is on Fox and, well, what can you expect? it’s not on the same level as Top Chef and i don’t think it’s meant to be. i’m a fan of both shows. i’m looking forward to seeing the American version of the hit British show, ‘Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares’. that’s a great show!
as for this year’s winner, i think Rock definitely deserved it over Bonnie. however, i was embarrassed by his stereotypical black man’s rage. the saving grace for me is that he was, too.
Anthony Bourdain is great. Love him. His book is a pretty good read, too.
Oh puh-leaseeee, Hell’s Kitchen is wayyyy better than Top Chef!
I wish Julia was more knowledgeable about cooking for a fine dining establishment b/c she could have won this competition hands down.
I agree daria, he often rubbed me the wrong way and made stupid decisions (like who to pick to be on his cooking team in the finale). But, he was less annoying than the blonde chick that routinely pissed me off.
shakti,
I agree. His temper-tantrum was awful and made him look so stupid.
I know it’s a little biased but I wish the black woman won. I don’t like that she started crying in last week’s episode though. I understand it, but I don’t like it.
jillybean, i loved julia too, though in the end she disappointed me. what a baby! gordan ramsay offered to pay her way through culinary school for chrissakes and all she could do was whine about not making it to the finals! i’m sure that getting a free ride to culinary school will take her much farther than making it to the finals of a competition that she wasn’t skilled enough to win.
i couldn’t stand rock. luckily for him, i’ll probably be too broke for the rest of my life to ever go to his restaurant. Otherwise, I’d cuss him SLICK OUT!
