A black Philadelphia woman was sentenced to 8 months in a halfway house for sending her Muslim co-worker an anonymous hate note using magazine clippings, although the U.S. Attorney assigned to the case wanted her to get one year in prison, the maximum penalty for a misdemeanor hate crime. The note contained references to 9-11 and threats against the victim’s children. Kia Reid, the 35-year-old mother of three convicted of the crime, said that she sent the note, which she crafted while wearing gloves to avoid fingerprints, out of anger over a work dispute, not hate.
Pratter said that while Reid’s crime was “very serious” and had an “incendiary quality,” her remorse was “earnest.”
In addition to time in a halfway house, Pratter also sentenced Reid to 200 hours of community service, ordered her to undergo anger-management and sensitivity training and not have any contact with Timani for two years.
After the hearing, an angry Timani told reporters outside the courtroom that Reid should have gotten “hard time, jail time,” adding: “There’s no remorse.”

That wasn’t just anger–she had to sit down with the magazines, scissors, and glue and craft that thing–most sane people would have calmed down just going through the process. I think her sentence was light. And lawd, she has kids. Folks are ridiculous.
With the exception of the threats, this is dinner conversation at my house basically. There’s a lot of tribal tensions in my country and since the different groups have different religions, it’s become a religious thing too. I guess I’m not really sensitive to things I’ve heard regularly for years.
For a 35 year old though, that’s ridiculous.

Black people are not Kia Reid. she is a disgrace to Christians and to her own race. She is a sicko and deserves to put away for ever. balck people know what hatred is They have lived it and willnever repeat it. This woamn is just evil. She is not black she is NOTHING.
Christianity and blackness don’t make people less islamophobic. In pretty much every part of the world where there is a mix of Muslims and Christians or Arab Muslims and Blacks, there’s conflict. She is a disgrace to herself, not other people. Christians are persecuted by Muslims all around the world. Arab Muslims are killing off black people in Sudan. While it has nothing to do with this workplace conflict, it’s incredibly naive to say that this is unique.
