Either TMZ has a crazy vendetta against Dr. Jan Adams or Dr. Jan Adams is a crazy. But probably both, right? Consider the evidence: since Stereohyped’s post a few hours ago about TMZ’s tireless coverage of Donda West’s death, there have been nine new posts on Adams and West. They uncovered a variety of malpractice suits, a patient who claims he got her pregnant, a TV clip of him saying that most complications happen weeks or months after surgery, and his DUI mugshot.
Are we done yet?
I’m going to guess both as well. TMZ is taking an easy way out really. They are picking at this story because these are public records and they’re relatively accessible, not that it’s particularly interesting to them. Statistically speaking, every experienced surgeon is going to have some complications and some of those will result in lawsuits though it’s generally wise to make an offer to someone before they sue you.
There’s also a study that states that when patients who have bad outcomes are apologized to, dealt with honestly and directly, they are far less likely to sue. Imagine that.
The DUI and patient-turned-baby-mama bit bother me. Physicians often cover up for their colleagues dealing with substance abuse issues and it sometimes ends disastrously.
