It’s all Donda West all the time over at TMZ today, where the illustrious editors have shifted their focus to Dr. Jan Adams, the black plastic surgeon who conducted Kanye West’s mom’s tummy tuck and breast reduction. They report that Adams, who has made appearances on Oprah and is the host of the Discovery Health Channel show Plastic Surgery: Before and After, is not certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and almost had his license revoked by the California Medical Board after a series of DUIs.
If that’s not enough, TMZ “sources” also say that the surgery took twice as long as it should have, that Adams sent West home when he should have sent her to a recovery center, and that she was dead before paramedics arrived at her home the evening after the surgery.
For his part, Adams said that he is the victim of a smear campaign.
For my part, I wonder why I even bothered to just relay any of the information, considering what really matters — which is that someone’s mother got an ill-advised surgical procedure and ended up dead. It sounds like Donda West shopped around until she could find a surgeon willing to perform the procedures despite the risk. If the claims against Dr. Adams are true and are reason enough to revoke his license, then I’m sure the California Medical Board will, particularly if they wanted to already.
I feel like I need to go take a shower or something.
Dr. Rey isn’t ABPS certified either and severely injured his brother during a botched hair transplant. More and more “cosmetic surgeons” don’t really have any extensive training. People are moving into the area because it’s profitable. Some states are just now banning dentists from doing non-dental cosmetic surgery. It’s a real problem, but still, that doesn’t say anything about the surgery itself. If he was negligent, it was probably for not having her get full clearance from an internist. I’m in my early 20s and healthy, but the consultations I’ve gone to made it crystal clear that you must get a thorough physical to get some fat sucked out of your thighs. That’s 4 tiny incisions versus real cutting with breast reducion and tummy tuck.
You’re right about doctors getting into the platic surgery game. I had a dentist once that was doing some type of plastic surgery on the side. That kinda worried me, but not as much as it should have worried the women who were having their fat sucked out by a fucking dentist! I can be vain, but I won’t give up my life for my looks (my future hubby just gave me the side eye at that last sentence LOL).
I think the likely reason is she didn’t want her family and friends to find out. Those recovery centers are chosen because they provide privacy mostly. If it was just about care, most people could just hire a nurse to take care of them. Plastic surgery is still taboo, especially with black people. If you say you’re getting something done, you’re vain/shallow/wasteful/full of self hate or whatever. Meanwhile, many black celebs like their white counterparts have had work done and we applaud their “natural beauty” while we should really be applauding their surgeons. I am not telling my family or most of my friends when I do decide to get it done. They all know that I have a “fascination” with plastic surgery which is just really my attempt to get as educated as possible before I do it.
I noticed that TMZ were on his ass ALL day long too. Let this woman rest in piece. Let him alone y’all innocent until proven guilty, there’s NO real proof he did anything to her!!
CNN was doing stories on him, too. I’m just glad they didn’t have Sanjay Gupta out there trying to comment. I mean, does that mofo know everything??
Does he know anything? He’s on CNN so much that it doesn’t even seem like he practices medicine. Plus he’s like 33. How much experience do you have to be telling me health info? They better not have Dr. Rey on there because I will have to tell people something about his lack of ASPS certification and the whole nearly killing his brother bit.
